Avoid These Furnishing Faux Pas!
Turning a basic apartment into a home takes time and effort. Somewhere that you live without any personal flair is too generic. You should keep a few different things in mind when furnishing your apartment, especially if you intend to remain in the same location for years.
- Don’t organize your furniture into a basic square shape since it can make the room appear too static. If you insist on keeping your chairs or couches in a rectangular or square shape, add some asymmetric art or decorations to mix it up a bit. Don’t hang too many photographs of a single individual in one room or it may appear too similar to a shrine.
- Keep a similar color scheme in the room to create a flow, but don’t attempt to match colors too much. The key is to blend and complement colors with each other for a clean room appearance that isn’t too overwhelming.
- Do remember that less is more when it comes to decorating. A single well-placed and appealing decoration can completely revolutionize the room and not make it too crowded. Don’t get furniture that is too common or popular if it doesn’t fit with your personality.
- Make your bathroom more inviting with bath salts, scented soap and candles to appeal to guests. Add color and taste to your kitchen with glassware and dishes that complement your countertops, walls and flooring. There are plenty of places where you can add personality in your home.
- Add some off-set to the room with an area rug, especially if you have hardwood in multiple rooms. While hardwood is easier to clean with sweeping and mopping, it can be quite boring to look at all the time. Select quality over quantity in every room. Don’t be afraid to get creative with your fixtures and hardware if possible.
- When allowing children to decorate their rooms give them the freedom to express themselves. Decorations can be removed and the design can be changed, so don’t stress out if their ideal room is one filled with posters of the latest music or movie sensation.
Regardless of how you decorate, you should always have renter’s or home insurance to protect yourself in case of accidental damage due to floods, fires or theft. You may want to check out InsuranceQuotes.org to get an approximate range of insurance quotes.
