How to Install an Electric Shower
When installing the electric showers it is important to follow all local water company bylaws. Most electric showers must be connected at the main water supply. Make sure you have a permanently connected power line running through a double pole switch as well as ensuring that all connections can handle the power needed for the shower unit.

People commonly place the outlet on the ceiling. This type of unit typically provides hot showers with water from the mains pressure. The basic mains fed installation is reasonably easy to connect. It usually only requires a cold water feed from the rising main and an appropriate electrical connection. However, be aware that Part P of the Building Regulations applies in this instance. Therefore, a qualified electrician should connect the shower unit.
To connect the unit begin by:
1. Using the heating unit’s template as a guide, mark the holes on the wall where you will place the unit. Make sure the drill-bit size matches your screws.
2. Drill a half inch hole in the shower wall. The copper branch pipe will connect through the hole between the showerhead and the main water valve.
3. Push the pipe through the hole. Cut it at the proper length. Fit a stopcock on the end of the branch pipe behind the shower wall. The stopcock’s arrow should be pointing towards the shower head.
4. Fit the T joint to the rising main. Connect the T joint to the stopcock and the branch pipe to the main valve. Mount the shower head on the on the copper branch pipe.
5. Attach the shower unit box to the wall with the predrilled holes.
6. Connect the flexible spray hose and shower head. The water is now connected.
To connect the electricity:
1. Bore a hole in the ceiling somewhere between joists where you will mount the pull-switch.
2. Attach the mounting board on which you will attach the pull switch back plate.
3. Run some circuit cable up to the ceiling and through the mounting board. Leave at least 6 inches hanging over at the switch position. You can run the cable up along the wall, into the ceiling and down through the switch
4. Attach the pull-switch back plate and remove any unneeded cable at the switch position. This will reveal a red wire, a black wire and a group of bare wires.
5. Twist the bare wires together. These are the ground wires. Cover them with green and yellow sleeving and attach it to the E terminal of the pull-switch. Connect the red wire to the L terminal and the black wire to the N terminal.
6. Strip the cable connected to the shower unit. You should again see a red wire, a black one and a group of bare ones. Connect the red wire to the L terminal, the black one to the N terminal and the bare wires should be covered with the yellow and green sleeving. Connect it to the E terminal.
Your unit is now connected.
